The Philippine Mining Development Corporation (PMDC) has received the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau for its proposed Dinagat Nickel Ore and Associated Minerals Mining Project in Barangays Boa, Legaspi, and Valencia, Municipality of Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.
Issued under ECC-CO-2605-0001, the certification is an important regulatory milestone for PMDC and confirms the project’s compliance with the requirements of the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System following the review of its Environmental Impact Statement.
The aforementioned ECC covers the 2,700-hectare portion of the 3,600 project area with a maximum allowable annual production of 5 Million metric tons of nickel laterite ore.
The ECC moves PMDC closer to the implementation of one of its priority mining projects. Once operational, the Dinagat Nickel Project is expected to provide a significant source of revenues for PMDC, support the Corporation’s financial sustainability, and contribute to its mandate of responsibly developing the country’s mineral resources.
The project is also expected to create economic opportunities for host communities through employment, local procurement, and community development initiatives, while ensuring that environmental safeguards and mitigation measures are implemented throughout the life of the operation.
As the government’s mining corporation, PMDC remains committed to advancing responsible, sustainable, and revenue-generating mining projects that create value for government, host communities, and the Filipino people.
